Welcome
Principal’s Message
Lumen Christi Catholic Primary School opened in 1977 under the leadership of Father Jeremiah Coffey (Parish Priest) and Sr.Maureen O’Kelly (Principal), and in the 40+ years since has played an important role in educating the children of Churchill and the surrounding areas.
The name of our school, Lumen Christi, means the ‘Light of Christ’ and draws on both gospel references and the fact that we are situated in the Latrobe Valley, the location for the generation of much of the State’s electricity. We are challenged by our school name to be the light of Christ to all those around us through our everyday interactions.
Our school is committed to developing a safe and supportive learning environment that values resilience, empathy, perseverance and respect for all so that our students can successfully participate in an ever changing world.
At Lumen Christi, we commit to all children’s academic, spiritual, social, physical and emotional learning needs. We provide adjustments in learning opportunities and experiences, enabling children to experience personal growth based on an individual’s skills, knowledge and stage of development.
Within our collaborative, student-centred learning culture staff members are challenged to develop their professional practice. Our expert teaching staff engage all students in meaningful, relevant and challenging learning experiences, ensuring improved student performance within clear, high, whole-school expectations.
Our contemporary learning facility is situated on over five acres, ensuring our children can enjoy the space to move freely within a range of play areas. Our modern, flexible learning spaces and our modern resources support high quality learning. Children learn to work in respectful relationship with each other and the staff.
Lumen Christi utilises current digital technology across our school as a tool to improve and support student learning. Our school uses the Google suite of applications to enhance student learning and to engage in contemporary learning opportunities. The children have access to range of devices from Prep to Year 6.
Lumen Christi Catholic Primary School is a great place to be. We are proud of our children, our school and our community. I welcome you to visit our school to experience for yourself all we have to offer our students and families.
