From the Principal
Dear Families and Friends,
Our school community was informed yesterday afternoon of the appointment of our new Principal for 2022. We were happy to learn that Mrs Sally Darby will join our school staff as Principal, and look forward to continuing to provide the Lumen Christi School community with a safe and supportive learning environment under her leadership. Although we are sad to see Mr Dave Cooper leave at the end of the year, we know that we will be in safe hands under Mrs Darby.
Prep - 2 are back!
Last Friday, we eagerly welcomed back the youngest members of our school. Some students were a little nervous to return, but nerves were turned into smiles as the classroom doors were reopened for onsite learning once again. This is what some of our junior students had to say:
Our Year 3 - 6 students continue to learn remotely this week and although it is not ideal, our learning portals and Google Meets provide the students with an effective continuation of their learning.
Footy Colours Day
To celebrate another awesome, yet strange season of football this year, we will be having a Footy Colours Day this Thursday 16th September. Students in Prep - 2 are encouraged to wear their footy colours to school, whilst students in Year 3 - 6 are welcome to wear their footy colours to their Google Meet at 9am. Throughout the day students learning remotely will be completing a learning portal filled with football themed activities. We will all join together as a school community via Google Meet at 11:15am for a Footy Colours Day Assembly. I am sure there are many Melbourne and Western Bulldogs supporters eagerly, and nervously, awaiting that final game of the year...I know of one fan (Mrs Campbell) who cannot hide her excitement.
Return of devices
After our final Google Meet assembly of the term on Thursday, we ask that all borrowed devices are returned to school. We will have a collection table set up outside the school office between 12 - 3pm on Thursday. As devices will be returned on Thursday, there will be no Google Meets or learning portals this Friday. Students will be provided with a pack of worksheets for Friday when devices are returned. Families who did not borrow any device are welcome to pick up a pack of worksheets on Thursday between 12 - 3pm.
As another term draws to a close, I would like to thank the staff for their hard work and dedication to shifting smoothly into remote learning this term. Our school set and achieved a high standard of remote learning, with daily Google Meets and interactive learning portals which provided the students with access to robust and rich learning tasks at home. We also thank parents and guardians for their persistence with remote learning. We acknowledge that the situation we were faced with this term was not ideal, but by encouraging the children and modelling patience, you helped them through this period of time. On behalf of the staff and the students, we thank all parents and guardians sincerely.
We welcome back Mr Dave Cooper at the beginning of Term 4. We hope he has had a restful long service leave break and is ready to enjoy his final term with us at Lumen Christi. We also wish Mrs Marina Dosen well as she begins a period of long service leave at the beginning of Term 4. At this stage, we are unsure what Term 4 looks like, however we will communicate the arrangements once they are known to us.
I wish everyone a happy and relaxing school holiday, and hopefully look forward to welcoming all students back in Term 4.
Stay safe everyone.
Mr Camillo Redi
Acting Principal
