Dear Families,
I hope all of our dads and other special dad like figures in our community enjoyed a special Father’s Day on Sunday. A huge thank you to everyone who came and took part in our annual Father’s Day Breakfast and Prayer Service also and to our staff members who helped set up, mix batter, cook, clean and serve our parents and children on the day. We are so lucky at Lumen Christi to have such a supportive and generous staff, always willing to go that extra mile for our kids. Mrs Szkwarek as always, did a wonderful job preparing a beautiful service for our school community and even in Fr James’ absence, it was meaningful and a wonderful celebration of our dads and special people.
Our next Transition Session is this Wednesday at 2:15pm until 3pm. We are so excited to be welcoming back our beautiful new Foundation students for 2026. Our first session was well attended and although these sessions are not compulsory, they are important days for our children to attend to get to know the school and feel familiar with the school environment.
Next week is the last week of school for Term 3 and didn’t that just go quickly? Please be reminded that the last day of school for students is Thursday 18th at 3pm. This is also Footy Colours Day, so remember to dress up in your footy colours on this day. Mr Mulry is organising a day of fun footy activities so it’s a good way to get ready for the end of the footy season and the Grand Final – my team didn’t make it as usual (Essendon) and also as usual, was my dreadful performance in the staff footy tipping competition. Good luck to all those with teams still in the finals.
You may have seen in the news that the Church celebrated with joy the canonisation of a new millennial saint, Blessed Carlo Acutis. Carlo was an ordinary young person who loved computers, video games, and soccer, but he used his gifts to bring people closer to God. He had a deep love for the Eucharist, saying that it was his "highway to heaven," and he created a website to share the beauty of Eucharistic miracles with the world. His life reminds us that holiness is not just for priests, nuns, or people who lived long ago—it is possible for every one of us, even in today’s world.
As a Catholic school community, we can be inspired by Saint Carlo’s example of faith, kindness, and love for others. He shows us that using our talents and technology in positive ways can help spread God’s message of love and hope. Like Carlo, we are called to live each day with joy, to care for our friends and family, and to keep Jesus at the centre of our lives. May Saint Carlo Acutis guide us to walk with courage and faith on our own journey on earth and for those who believe, towards heaven.
Have a wonderful week ahead,
Sally
