From the Principal

Dear Families and Friends,
This week seems to be a week full of gratitude - a week filled with opportunities where we need to reach out to give thanks to those who have done things for us or to give thanks for the opportunities we have been given.
In Lent we recall a key story of the Catholic tradition where Jesus spends forty days in the desert being tempted and challenged.  In a recontextualised way we too are called to reflect on the way we go about our lives and how through our simple existence we can impact on the lives of others.
In the education industry we have the obvious responsibility to impact the learning outcomes of our students and as parents we have a much broader responsibility that impacts every aspect of the lives of our children.
At Lumen Christi we have many people who contribute and undertake their role with passion and generosity.  Many hands do make light work, so with more contributions the better the learning environment we can create for our children and the more engaged we can become as a community.
Can we take this opportunity to recognise:
  • The classroom staff for their input during this week's Parent-Teacher Interviews
  • Those parents who participated in the interview nights, and gave such positive feedback to the teachers - it really is appreciated.
  • The Hot Cross Bun crew - Organisers, Counters, Packers and Purchasers
  • Mr.Brandon Mahoney for quietly contributing hours behind the scenes to organise things for our Athletics Day.
  • The BBQ Lunch coordinators, cooks, servers and cleaners.
  • Those people who assisted with Athletics setup and packup.
  • Playgroup helpers and families
  • Cambo's Kitchen helpers

As a school we fall into a system of schools networked under the name Diocese of Sale:Catholic Education Limited (DOSCEL).  DOSCEL are our governing body but more importantly are a source of support and structure.  In the current global scenario of health pandemics, they have provided clear and current information to the school.  In this newsletter there is information supplied through DOSCEL and we share this information with you to provide guidelines as well as reassurance that the Catholic school system is monitoring this situation with every consideration made to prioritise the wellbeing of our students and employees.  Any updates will be communicated with families with the new online platform of the website and App being the vehicle where critical updates can be relayed to you quickly, the scenario being similar to closure days in the past for events like bushfires.  So again we urge parents to have the App downloaded on your devices and to be in the habit of checking your emails for school notifications.

As this newsletter will be published before the conclusion of our Athletics day I trust we all had a great day and the predicted rain didn't make its appearance until the afternoon.  We look forward to seeing plenty of families and friends cheering us on at the Yinnar & District Athletics Day next Thursday - Can parents please complete the permission notice linked to this newsletter as soon as possible.  Alternatively, permission notes can be located on the 'Forms & Documents' box on the website.

Enjoy your weekend.
