From the Principal
Dear Families and Friends,
With the relief that comes from the State Government announcement also comes the realisation that we need to quickly re-establish our school routines so that we can continue living up to our school mantra - Every teacher makes every minute count for every child.
The idea of mantras, vision statements, core objectives could be brushed off as corporate language but I find them useful to steer the behaviours, attitudes and actions of what we do. When I first came to Lumen Christi we were looking to adopt a quick phrase to add to the original school motto of Learn with Faith. Believe, Achieve, Succeed came into vogue from that conversation.
Believe - accounts for the central place our faith story has in what we do
Achieve - refers to the academic achievements we aspire for all of our students
Succeed - recognises that success for each of our students is a much deeper than simple academics.
What was missing though was the place of community. Our school sits within the Churchill community but we also have communities that exist across the school and classrooms. To address this component we added the ...together to our phrase. We recognise that Believe, Achieve, Succeed is only possible when it is done together. Remote Learning has challenged that notion of together but as a school community I think we can be very proud of what has been achieved in the past eight school days. The adaptability of the staff, students and families to make the best of the situation has been outstanding.
Interesting to note last Friday when the Tokyo Games were officially opened was that the International Olympic committee stole our Lumen Christi ..... together. No longer was the motto Faster, Higher, Stronger simply good enough - we now have them adding Together!
The return to school also comes with adjustments to be made to our procedures and protocols. As a school we have been so resilent and as the principal I can only commend the staff and school families on how well we have adapted to these compliance expectations, we simply do them to ensure the school can continue to operate and have our students onsite in a safe environment. So yet again I say thanks to everyone.
A few reminders for tomorrow:
-All devices and chargers need to be returned
-Please follow all directives (eg.maintaining social distancing, wearing masks, QR codes) as per State Government advice
I look forward to seeing everyone back onsite tomorrow.
