From Mrs Darby

Dear Families,

I hope everyone had a wonderful break over the past two weeks. Whether you were able to get away somewhere different or whether you stayed home and bunkered down inside, it’s good to see students return to us well rested and ready for another great term of learning at Lumen Christi.

Term 3 is a short term, only 9 weeks so there is a lot to squeeze in – schools are very busy little places!

The main dates to note are Parent Teacher Interviews, which will be happening on Wednesday 20th and Thursday 21st August (week 5 of the term). A reminder that parents and guardians are welcome to make an appointment at any time to see or speak with teachers, important issues don’t need to wait until Parent Teacher Interviews. However, if you have any questions about your child’s learning or their report, please use the Parent Teacher Interviews as an opportunity to discuss these things and what the teacher sees as next steps in learning for your child.

Please also remember that Friday 19th September is a pupil free day. Staff will be completing Professional Learning on this day.

For families who have children due to start in Foundation next year, please remember to put your enrolment forms in soon. Transition sessions will be starting on Wednesday 27th August. If you know of any families in the community who are considering Lumen Christi for their child in 2026, please let them know.

On the last day of Term 2, staff completed some professional learning in Religious Education focusing on Sacraments. We talked a lot about viewing the world through our “Sacramental Glasses”, meaning to stop and view the world through the lens of awe and wonder. For example, the wonder of nature, the wonder of a display of kindness, the wonder of a rainbow or a storm and appreciating all of the good things that happen in the world around us. Catholics believe that this is looking for “visible signs of God’s invisible presence”, others may just view it as “stopping to smell the roses”. Either way, it’s a positive way to move through the world looking for what’s good about the world instead of lingering on the negative.

On the holidays, I was lucky enough to go to the National Gallery of Victoria to see the paintings of some of the French Impressionists. I don’t profess to know very much about art at all, but it was definitely a lesson in viewing things through “Sacramental Glasses” as I stood in awe of the talent and beautiful images these artists shared with the world.

Have a wonderful week ahead,

Sally
