From Mrs Darby

Dear Families,

I hope all of our families enjoyed the lovely weather over the weekend. It was certainly lovely to see some sunshine after some of the less lovely weather we have had recently.

God was certainly smiling on us on Sunday, bringing people out in droves to our P&F sausage sizzleat Bunnings. I want to sincerely thank our Parents and Friends committee for the effort they went to to organise this fundraiser for our school and to all of the people who helped throughout the day. I appreciate how busy peoples’ lives are, so to give up part or all of your Sunday to do this for the school is a really generous thing to do. For those who weren’t able to help, but who went out and bought a sausage or two – thank you also. It was a very successful day by the sounds of it, so well done to this fantastic group of parents. If there are any other parents who would like to be on the P&F committee, please come in and see either myself or Janelle Breheny in the office. We always need extra helping hands and everyone is welcome.

Grade 3 and 4 have been off at camp this week. As always, our children have demonstrated our school wide expectations consistently and all of the staff attending camp were extremely proud of all of our beautiful children and I know our families would have been too.

Recently, the teachers have done some professional learning in the Gospel of Mark because the Catholic community are currently in the Year of Mark. What we have learned is that each of the Gospel writers wrote at a different time in history and for very different audiences. One of the things that we found very interesting was that in Mark’s Gospel, he writes for a “Gentile” audience – this means people who were not Jews or Christian at the time. Mark’s message is that Jesus and God are
for everyone, not just a select few. At Lumen Christi, we always aspire to be welcoming of everyone, just as the Gospel of Mark tells us to be.

This year, Mrs Szkwarek purchased a special set of Indigenous Rosary Beads for every classroom forour children to use. October is the month of the Rosary, so at Assembly last week, we started learning how Catholics pray this special prayer to Mary. We hope to teach our children particular aspects of Catholic life to help build on the Catholic Identity of the school, which is an important part of what we do.
Next week on Thursday, we look forward to welcoming our Grandparents to school for our mass and Grandparents’ morning. Please remember to remind all of our special Grandparents to come along if they can.

Have a wonderful week ahead,
Sally
