From Mrs Darby

Dear Families,

All classes have started learning their dances for the school concert. I managed to get in and see Grade 4/5 practising their item today and it is looking great already. There will be more information coming about costumes very soon. We like to make things very simple for families, so rest assured, the expectations for families will not be overly difficult.

This week, we have Meerkat productions coming to the school for an incursion with our students. This is something we look forward to every year and something the children really enjoy. Thanks to Lauren Wilson in the library for organising this.

We also have our Foundation and Year 1 students celebrating 100 days of school which is a lovely celebration for them. The Foundation and Year 1 team have been working hard making sure that it is a lovely morning for the children and it’s always so lovely to see them dressed up. Thank you to all the parents for the effort that goes into this.

Book week dress up day is just around the corner on Monday 19 th August – remember to come dressed as your favourite book character.

Yesterday we had an emergency evacuation called a “Shelter in Place”. Our children were wonderful and lined up in the Eco-Centre calmly and quietly. We are constantly working on our routines and the way in which we move around the school to ensure our environment is safe and orderly. A Shelter in Place might be used for a severe weather event like an asthma storm or if the students
need to be evacuated quickly off the yard for any reason. We make sure we practise a different emergency evacuation drill every term so that both staff and students know how to respond confidently.

A reminder that parent teacher interviews are next week on Wednesday and Thursday night. Please make every effort to make a time with your child’s teacher and to be on time. Our parents are welcome to make an appointment any time during the year to speak with teachers, but this is a formal opportunity offered by the school. Please come in and see us to enjoy hearing about the
wonderful learning your children are doing.

We are looking forward to our combined parish mass in Morwell on Thursday. Mrs Szkwarek has put so much effort into a lovely day for our students. Please remember to give consent on PAM otherwise students will not be able to attend the day. We are gathering to honour the feast day of Australia’s patron Saint – Mary MacKillop.

A Prayer for Mary MacKillop
God of compassion, God of all people, we praise you for your servant, Mary MacKillop, who gave her
life to serve you in the poor and oppressed.
As she is honoured in our world, may we continue to learn to share her vision.
Help us to recognise, as she did, that the poor of our time will hear the gospel in the way we serve
them. Be with us as we strive to follow her and carry out our mission of service and care.
Amen

Have a wonderful week ahead,
Sally
