From Mrs Darby
Dear Families,
We had a very quiet week at Lumen Christi – a welcome change leading into the second half of the term. There is just four weeks of Term 2 to go.
On Thursday, we acknowledged Reconciliation Week with a whole school liturgy prepared by Mrs Szkwarek. All of the children participated in some kind of reflection about why Reconciliation is important or why Australia is a wonderful place to live. It’s important that we learn to acknowledge the hurtful parts of our country’s history and Mrs Szkwarek put together something that did this in an age appropriate way whilst also highlighting the ways in which we can celebrate this great country together.
I think winter is well and truly here now. A gentle reminder about school uniforms – there seems to be lots of pairs of black leggings reappearing on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Please ensure that we are wearing the correct school uniform and shoes on the correct days. We allow a small amount of leniency for children for whom this is unusual, but myself and the teachers will address uniforms with students when they are in the incorrect uniform which can be an uncomfortable conversation for some children. If for some reason your child is out of uniform, a good old fashioned note is always appreciated.
We are also taking a good look at our attendance. A reminder that our policy states that absences without a valid reason have to be followed up. If we cannot get in contact with parents, we are required to contact the people listed as emergency contacts. It’s that time of year when everyone is picking up coughs and colds, please let the school know if your child is going to be away. Illness really is the only reason students should be away from school. Our attendance rates are generally quite
good, but I know we can make the effort to be excellent attenders at school.
This week our netballers are off to the Yinnar and District Netball competition, so we wish them the best of luck competing against the other schools.
A reminder that Friday is a pupil free day. The teachers will be completing professional learning in our Whole School Approach to Positive Behaviour. My apologies for two pupil free days in such a short period of time. This was due to presenter availability and was unavoidable. Next week out students from Foundation to Year 3 are attending a performance of “How to catch a
star” at the Gippsland Performing Arts Centre. Please remember to tick consent on PAM so that nobody misses out on this fantastic experience that will be a fun and enjoyable day for the children.
Have a wonderful week ahead,
Sally
