From Mrs Darby

Dear Families,

Welcome to Week 5! We are officially half way into another term and as always there is a lot going on and a lot to celebrate here at Lumen Christi.

Firstly, thank you to our families who were able to support the Book Fair last week. It was lovely to see so many children walking away with books that they were going to read and enjoy.

We also had a great turn out for our “Dad’s (and special persons’) night – a huge thank you to Mr Clarke for organising another action packed night and to Miss Smith and Miss Jess for helping out.

This week, we have Meerkat Productions coming to share a play about one of the shortlisted books for Book Week. I know the children have been preparing for this in their Library session so that they can take part in the production too.

Speaking of Book Week, Monday 21 st of August is Dress Up Day – so please start thinking about a costume. Remember, it doesn’t have to be shop bought or anything fancy. Usually, you can be creative with something you might have at home already. The last thing anybody at Lumen Christi wants is for families to spend a fortune on costumes. It’s always a fun day, we encourage all children to participate by dressing up as their favourite book character.

This week, we are celebrating Grandparent’s Day. We invite our Grandparents and other special people to come along for one of our amazing breakfasts at 8:10am in the eco-centre and then for mass at 9:30am in the church.

Today is the solemnity of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop. Mary MacKillop was famous for saying, “Never see a need without doing something about it”. There is a need in our local community to support those who don’t have enough and so we ask our families this week to “Give a Damn, Give a Can” so that we can provide meals to those in need. There are tubs in classrooms and one in the foyer area at school. Some children have started bringing in their cans of food already, which is wonderful to see. Please give generously if you can.

Go Diamonds! Our netballers won the netball World Cup also this week. And also – Go Matildas! I don’t think God would mind if we all said a special prayer ensuring Samantha Kerr’s calf injury will be right for the quarter finals.

Have a wonderful week ahead,

Sally
