From Mrs Darby

Dear Families,

We have had a wonderful morning here at Lumen Christi sharing a Pancake breakfast with our children. Lots of happy smiling faces this morning. I’d like to thank Mrs Campbell and Mrs Leary for their help and for the staff who came and assisted in mixing batter, frying and serving up the pancakes – these are the days that remind us what a special and lovely community Lumen Christi is.

We have a few busy weeks ahead, we have our Dad’s Night on the 8th March from 5-6:30 and our Reconciliation Games Night on Tuesday 14th March from 5-6:30 also for all of our Year 3 students and families.

NAPLAN is also fast approaching; the testing window opens on Wednesday the 15th of March.

We also have our school sports day coming up on the 10th March, I know our children have been doing some great work with Mrs Hanratty our PE teacher, she was very impressed with our children last week who were practising High Jump!

This Thursday the 23rd February, we will be celebrating the beginning of the season of Lent with a whole class mass in the church starting at 9:30am. Please come along, all are welcome. The mass will be led by Grade 3/4 and many of the children in this class will have a special job to do.

The season of Lent is traditionally about fasting, like Jesus did for 40 days and 40 nights in the desert. Traditionally people might like to “give something up” for Lent, however fasting can be so much more than going without chocolate or lollies. The weekend’s Gospel reminded us to “Turn the other cheek” and “Love our enemies” – during Lent, we can fast from judging others and we can make extra efforts to practice kindness and compassion. I have always loved the Prayer of St Francis, which to me is central to our Christian Faith :

Lord, make me a channel of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me bring love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is darkness, light. Where there is sadness, joy.

Have a wonderful week everyone,

Sally
