Dear Families,
Here we are in Week 9, it’s been a busy term and there doesn’t look to be much slowing down as we head towards the holidays. Teachers are very busy writing student reports which will be released via PAM in the final week of term. Please take the time to read these, many, many hours have gone into writing them and the teachers have taken such great care in ensuring that you receive feedback about your child that is both accurate and reflects the relationships that we nurture here at school.
Thank you for the continued improvement in children wearing the correct uniform to school on the correct days. It makes a difference looking out around the playground when everyone is doing the right thing. If for any reason your child can’t be in the correct uniform for the day, a simple note to the class teacher is appreciated.
Last week, we had our school footy and netball teams compete. Both teams performed well on the day and they represented our school reflecting our school wide expectations. Thank you to any parents, friends or family members who supported the children on the day.
I spent last Thursday and Friday at a Principal’s meeting in Lakes Entrance. One of the things we did was spend a day at the Lake Tyers Aboriginal Trust. This is a place with quite historical significance as it was the first land in Australia to be given back to the Aboriginal People. I had the privilege of listening to the lived experience of one woman who spoke about her family’s history and how they were directly impacted by the forced removal of babies and children from their community. It is a very upsetting part of our national history, but important to hear in order to move forward and to understand how it has contributed to some of the intergenerational trauma and challenges Aboriginal Communities face even today.
On Friday, we had a webinar with "Inform and Empower" which is an online safety program which we subscribe to here at the school. Each week this term, I have been putting information about the Child Safety Standards and Online Safety sits within this week's standard - Standard 9. I have included the topics that we have covered in the newsletter in Term 2 for families to read.
A huge thank you to our P&F who ran another successful Lunch Order day. There is one more coming up at the end of the term on the 3rd July, so make sure you get your orders in for that one to celebrate the last day of school.
This week we have our Soccer boys heading off to the next level of competition so we wish them good luck, we hope they play well and represent our school proudly!
Mrs Szkwarek has entered us into The Big Sing again this year, which comes up next week also. For those children taking part in this, remember there is a rehearsal on Thursday during the day which parents need to provide transport to and from and then the concert in the evening. It’s been a wonderful event in the past and I know it will be another fantastic opportunity for our beautiful students to shine again this year.
Have a wonderful week ahead,
Sally
