Dear Families,
Happy Mother’s Day to all of our special mums, nans, aunties and any other special women in the lives of out children at Lumen Christi! I hope everyone had a lovely day.
I would like to extend my thanks to our amazing Parents and Friends for organising and running the Mother’s Day stall last week. They do such an incredible job and always keep the children of our school at the forefront of everything that is organised for the school community. The P&F are always looking for new members, if there are other parents in our community who would like to help and connect with other parents in the school, please call the school and we would be happy to put you in touch with the right people.
Yesterday, we had a school production company come and visit the school to present their “Backflips Against Bullying” show. It was a really great example of how to tackle an important and serious issue in a fun and engaging way. The children learned about what bullying is, what to do if it happens to them or someone else and what they can do instead of retaliating. Our children really enjoyed the show and came away with some great strategies to deal with bullying behaviour if they ever need it.
Our Year 6 students will be participating in their “Gifts and Services” night on Wednesday night. We encourage all families to attend, all children will be involved in preparing a meal for their parents and completing a project about a Saint. This is for all children whether they are completing their Confirmation or not. Last year was a wonderful night, the children get to do something in service for their parents and share some of the learning they have been doing in their classrooms.
We do have a group of children who are preparing for Confirmation. We keep them in our prayers as they are getting ready to take the next step in their faith journey.
Friday marks the beginning of Catholic Education Week. The theme for this year is “I am making all things new”. We are still in the season of Easter and in the Catholic church we have just celebrated the feast of Jesus’ ascension into heaven. This was a time for making all things new, a time of great change in the early life of the church as the Apostles navigated their way without Jesus, which was at times challenging and hard. I want to acknowledge as the Principal of the school and as educators of children, change, new growth and new learning can sometimes be challenging and hard. There’s a sense of discomfort in learning new things, changing and growing– we talk to our children at the school about this as being Resilient – one of our school wide expectations and a reminder that anything worth having takes a bit of effort and hard work.
We have some basketball clinics at the school next Tuesday with an international basketballer from America which is very exciting.
I’d also like to remind families that Friday 24th May is a pupil free day as staff will be learning about how we can create opportunities to connect our lessons and teaching to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives. There is no school for students on this day.
I had a good week in the footy tipping here at school – I’m finally off the bottom of the ladder. I hope your team won over the weekend.
Have a wonderful week ahead,
Sally

Catholic Education Week Mass- Thursday 16th may 9:30am
The theme for this year’s celebrations is, A New Dialogue of Love, Hope and Joy, inspired by the Scripture passage, ‘See, I am Making All Things New’ (Rev. 21:5).
This theme symbolises an optimistic and hope-filled perspective on the world and a renewed approach to fostering positive change.
The theme emphasises the belief that transformation and renewal are possible in all aspects of life through individual choices. By following the life and teachings of Jesus, and embracing principles of compassion, peace, goodness, and justice, individuals can contribute to a more hopeful and joyful world, sowing seeds of positivity and hope.
Through this theme, Catholic schools aim to inspire young people to reflect on the Christian message and to showcase their efforts in contributing to creating a better world. The hope is for staff, students, families, and parishes to embrace this meaningful time and for schools to celebrate their distinctive mission and share features that are special about their schools.
Yesterday, we had a visit from Backflips Against Bullying. Our children learnt about how to stand up to bullies, how to be an up-stander and how retaliating isn’t the best option. Learning about a very serious issue in a really fun way!
